In the early game, the SFX Junior Varsity took on St. Barnabas in the Bronx County Championship Game at Mt. Carmel. The Lions grabbed the early lead and built it up 10 points just before half time, but late baskets by Barnabas ended the half with the Lions leading by 6. St. Barnabas' height advantage kept them in the game and they stayed within range throughout the 3rd period. Barnabas chopped the lead to three midway through the final period, but the Lions held off several Barnabas charges before icing the game with some clutch shooting in the frantic final minutes of play. Congratulations to the JV Lions, who completed undefeated regular seasons in both the CYO and the CSBA, and are the undefeated, undisputed CYO & CSBA Bronx County Champions. The JV Lions also defeated Mt. Carmel of Manhattan to Capture the CYO Bronx/Manhattan District and Advance to the CYO State Tournament in Staten Island on March 30.

In the nightcap, the Lions Varsity faced a taller and very athletic St. Raymond's team. If anyone saw last year's amazing SFX Bantam playoff games, they were about to see one at the varsity level. Raymond's came out in a half-court trap that caused a multitude of Lion turnovers. The Ravens quickly established a double digit lead and kept it that way for most of the first half. The Lions mounted a late charge just before intermission, scoring 6 quick points, and the half ended with the Lions within 6-points.

To start the 2nd half, the Ravens scored three unanswered baskets, quickly pulling out to a 12-point lead. The Ravens stretched the lead to 16 points with only 8 minutes remaining. However, just when the Ravens were on the verge of celebrating the Bronx County Championship, Xavier showed why they are the Lions. Displaying the heart it takes to be champions, the Lions turned the tables on the Ravens with a full-court press of their own. They began to chip away at the lead and with 5 minutes left, they sliced the lead to 6. The Ravens kept coming, and the lead hovered at 8 until 3 minutes remained. Then the Lions revved the press into high gear, and capitalized on turnovers to trim the lead to 3. Keeping up the pressure, a steal with one minute remaining brought the Lions to the free throw line, trailing by two. After hitting both foul shots, the game was tied for the 1st time since it was 2-2. St. Raymond's then drove and scored to go up by two with 50 seconds left. The Lions scored to tie again, then in a fast break, an errant Raven pass gave the ball back to the Lions. They did not waste the opportunity, and with 32 seconds left, the Lions scored to go ahead for the 1st time since they lead 2-0. St. Raymond's was stunned, having given up what appeared to be an insurmountable 16 point 2nd half advantage. After a Raven miss, Xavier was fouled but missed the front end of a 1&1, giving the Ravens a chance to tie. The Raven jump shot missed, and the Lions again grabbed the rebound. With 10 seconds remaining, the Lions were fouled again and headed to the free-throw line for another 1&1. To the dismay of the Lions' faithful, the front end shot again was missed, and St. Raymond grabbed the rebound with no timeouts remaining. Forced to rush the ball up court, with 3 seconds left and down by 2, the Ravens hoisted up a three point shot for the win. The 3- point game winning attempt was off the mark and Xavier rebounded as the buzzer sounded. The Lions had held on for an incredible, come from behind 2-point victory to earn the CYO 2007-2008 Bronx County Championship. The Lions led in the game for a total of less than 1 minute, but when the clock read :00 the Lions were on top of the Bronx.

The Gidget Wildcats also Captured the Bronx County Championship, defeating St. Barnabas to earn the crown.

Congratulations to the Coaches and Players of the Lions & Wildcat teams.

They all earned and deserve the title of Champions.
